Managing Director (MD) – Co-op Trust Investment Services Limited
 


 


Co-op Trust Investment Services Limited is a fully owned subsidiary of The Co-operative Bank Group involved in the management of investments on behalf of institutional and individual investors such as insurance companies, pension funds and other entities.
 



Reporting to the GMD & CEO of The Co-operative Bank of Kenya Ltd and the Board of Directors, the
Managing Director will be required to oversee, manage and provide business and technical leadership on all aspects of Co-op Trust Investment Services Limited.
 



The purpose of this role is to provide strategic and business leadership in the redefining of the company strategy, driving profitable growth, investments, expanding our fund management mandates, increasing the business and market share, new product development and external stakeholder engagement with a view to positioning Co-op Trust Investment Limited as a leading investment and fund management firm in Kenya and the region.




The Role
 



Specifically, the successful jobholder will be expected to ensure:


  • Providing leadership in strategy development and execution for the company in terms of short and long term strategies for the company to realize the corporate goals and objectives

  • Engaging and giving business direction and leadership in fund management and all investment portfolios

  • Engaging with the Group MD & CEO and the board of Directors on strategic plan execution and company performance

  • Managing the legal and regulatory issues from a business perspective and keeping abreast of the regulatory environment and requirements

  • Overseeing investment due diligence and monitoring and assessment of current fund managers and investment managers within the necessary framework

  • Acting as the senior leadership relationship manager with investment partners and develops collaborative and mutually beneficial relationships with key investors

  • Providing technical leadership in investment Product Development ¡n the design, implementation of new investment products and opportunities for modifications to existing products.

  • Overseeing the development of and compliance with company policies whilst giving business management oversight for the company

  • Role-modelling and providing sales leadership expertise while directing key research in investment products, market activity and current economic environment

  • Driving business and leading all Co-op Trust Investment Limited staff in embedding a high performance culture in the company


Skills & Technical Competencies
 



The successful jobholder will be required to possess the following qualifications:-


  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Finance and other related fields. A strong preference for an MBA or other relevant advanced degree preferably in a Business related field

  • Professional Certification – Certified Financial Analyst or a relevant investment professional certification

  • Ten (1 0+) years of investment and fund management work experience, preferably with at least 8 years in a leadership role as a Senior Manager in fund management or investment product development / management

  • Experience in emerging markets, securities, institutional investment, investment product management, investment advisory relationship management

  • Must possess in-depth knowledge of investing concepts and principles. 

  • Good working knowledge of investment structures, styles, strategies and securities and emerging investment products e.g. Private Equity, REITS, derivatives etc.

  • Knowledge of legal and regulatory considerations and related legislation in Kenya, other relevant legislation and professional regulations

  • Excellent leadership capabilities, be action-oriented and results oriented to create significant shareholder value in the long run.

  • Demonstrated ability to negotiate, develop and leverage mutually beneficial relationships.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including the ability to effectively package and communicate information at the senior executive level.
