Summary of the position
The SAFE Initiative applies an integrated approach with human-centric trainings to media practitioners world-wide.
The Digital Safety Trainer (DST), under the supervision of the Center Manager, will be contracted on part-time basis, culminating to ten days a month. The DST will be responsible for the design, preparation and delivery of holistic safety training and workshops for media practitioners in East Africa.
The position is based in Nairobi and will require travel.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Digital Safety trainer will;
- In coordination with the Center Manager and Journalist Safety Trainer, prepare regionally appropriate trainings and workshop curriculum for East African media practitioners.
- Design, develop, review and contextualize lessons in digital safety and risk management to suit program participants and ensure integrated approach in training materials.
- Deliver contextualized lessons in digital safety and risk management that reflect the integrated safety framework.
- Develop integrated standard operating procedures and individual risk mitigation plans at trainings as required.
- Provide mentoring and support to partner organizations, media outlets and CSOs.
Skills and Qualifications
- Must have journalism experience.
- Aware of the East African landscape.
- Experience in training delivery, design and adult learning methodologies.
- High level of computer literacy.
- Excellent communication and people skills.
